The Order That Actually Matters: How to Layer Your Skincare

Most skin concerns aren't caused by using the wrong products — they're caused by using the right products in the wrong order.

The rule is simple: thinnest to thickest.

1. Cleanse

Remove the day's buildup without stripping your skin's natural barrier. A gentle, non-foaming cleanser is enough for most skin types.

2. Treat

Serums and toners go on clean, slightly damp skin. This is where active ingredients — like Hyaluronic Acid, Niacinamide, or Kojic Acid — do their work, since they penetrate best on a clean surface.

3. Moisturise

Lock in hydration and seal the actives underneath. Even oily skin needs this step — skipping it often leads to more oil production, not less.

4. Protect

In the morning, SPF is the last step, every day, regardless of weather.

One product at a time

When trying something new, give it two weeks before adding another active. This makes it easy to tell what's actually working — and what isn't.
